History

Tegra Incorporadora

Our history began in 1889, with the birth of São Paulo Tramway, Light and Power Company Limited, the largest utility company in Latin America.

In 1901, the Company inaugurated the Parnaíba Hydroelectric Plant – the largest in Latin America, ensuring the expansion of lighting and tram services in São Paulo. And seven years later, through the Rio de Janeiro Tramway, Light and Power, it opened the Usina de Fontes – at the time, the largest hydroelectric plant in Brazil.

In 1916, it assumed a new identity and prestige: Companhia Telephônica Brasileira (CTB). In 1931, it was part of the inauguration of the largest postcard in Brazil: Christ the Redeemer. The Company was present in all phases of the project, ensuring lighting and rail access to the monument for decades.

In 1958, the group changed its name to Brascan Organização e Investimento LTDA, while in 1978Brascan Imobiliária begins its operations in Rio de Janeiro.

In 2009, following the acquisitions of MB Engenharia and Company S.A., Brascan was renamed Brookfield Incorporações.

In 2012, for the 4th consecutive year, the Company was among the 10 most admired companies in Brazil, in the Construction and Development category, according to a survey conducted by Carta Capital magazine. That same year, it was voted the best residential developer in Latin America by Euromoney, a recognition it received again in 2015.

In 2015, a new phase in the Company’s history began, with a new leadership, with Ubirajara Spessotto de Camargo Freitas as CEO and pursuing a robust turnaround, with focus on the client, quality and execution, and presence in strategic markets and geographies for the Company.7

In 2016, we created the Tamboré Urbanismo business unit, operating in the urban development segment, which the Company believes is in a phase of strong growth and with high project return potential. Founded in 1980, the Tamboré brand has the capacity to operate in multiple cities in Brazil, with a clear preference for cities with over 250 thousand inhabitants, high HDI, favorable master plan and positive economic perspectives for the expansion of the urban area.

In 2017, the Company’s new brand was created, Tegra, with the goal of strengthening the Company’s culture and its purpose of desigining unique projects.

In 2018, Tegra Incorporadora consolidated its first Sustainability Policy and decided to go through the process of inserting the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) indicators as a way to improve the Company’s sustainability management process.

In 2020, we carried out a spin-off of non-strategic regions and projects, and the Company remained focused solely on the middle and high income segments in the metropolitan regions of São Paulo, Campinas and Rio de Janeiro, relevant and fragmented markets, with great growth potential.

In 2023, Tegra Incorporadora completed 45 years of existence and reached the mark of more than 26 million square meters built and under construction, more than 106 thousand properties developed, 97 thousand customers and 81 awards received. Keeping ourselves at the forefront of sustainability, in May we launched the 2022 Sustainability Report according to the Integrated Reporting model, a significant advance in the integration of sustainability aspects into the Company’s results and highlighting the importance of this topic for us.
